Job Purpose

 

Working as part of a team to undertake Traffic Management duties all aspects of highway maintenance, construction and contrat work

 

Key Tasks and Accountabilities

 

 

 

1    Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ):

 

  • Work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policy.
  • Report any unsafe conditions brought to your notice to your line manager and any instances of abuse by third parties.
  • Undertake only tasks for which you have been trained or have the necessary experience to make you competent.
  • Operate all forms of equipment safely and follow the defect procedure when appropriate.
  • Wear and use all appropriate safety equipment, maintain it, and report any defects to your agent.
  • Avoid unnecessary risk and all forms of horse play and ensure your own personal hygiene at all times.
  • Report any accident, injury, near miss or environmental incident to your line manager immediately.
  • Follow the risk assessments and safe systems of work for each task, to follow safety instructions and site rules.
  • To take care of your own health and safety and that of others affected by your work.

2 Work Planning and Control:

  • Undertake specific footway works including reconstruction and slurry sealing, carriageway patching, drainage, masonry, emergency and highways maintenance tasks.
  • Undertake a leading hand role within the designated gang as and when necessary.
  • Requirement to be available for out of hour’s standby duties for Plymouth Highways and SWH.
  • Use of relevant plant and small tools (training provided).
  • Providing general support and assistance to skilled and specialist operatives.
  • To undertake any other appropriate tasks as required.
  • Ensure the care and cleanliness of all vehicles, tools, plant and equipment at all times.
  • To ensure the efficient use of stock & materials and control wastage

3 Client Care and Communication:

  • Ensure management and managing agents are informed of all matters relating to the business.
  • To work at all times in the best interests of the business.
  • Maintain and promote a positive image.
  • To always seek to improve the service provided

4 Financial and Administrative Tasks:

  • Return weekly timesheets and daily vehicle checks with driving records.
  • Complete and return all necessary site records to your line manager.
  • To complete all company standard reports and forms as required.

5 Traning and Development:

  • Participate in job training and personal development as appropriate.
  • Seek to develop own skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the business.

Service Standards

  • Appraisal system – Achievement of annual personal business objectives
  • Feedback from progress meetings with Line Manager and from other colleagues.
  • Meet agreed deadlines
  • Queries are dealt with accurately and promptly
  • Customer is satisfied by the standard of the work
  • Timely provision of data for KPI’s
  • Customer service feedback i.e. problem resolution, telephone manner etc.
  • Work to and actively support SWH to develop, maintain and improve service delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Hands on and active support for colleagues
  • Professional and tidy appearance    
  • Telephone answered promptly and in a courteous manner
  • Customer Care focus
  • Work at a level consistent with, or higher than, agreed service levels
  • All correspondence acknowledged within 48 hours and responded to within 7 days, unless otherwise specified

Additional Requirements:

 

A clean full driving licence is essential and a valid HGV entitlement is preferable along with the ability to undertake Winter Maintenance operations.

 

An excellent level of customer focus is essential.

 

A valid CSCS card, 12D Traffic Management Card

 

At all times to adhere to company procedures with regard to Health & Safety and where applicable to ensure all team members do likewise.
