Job Title: Highways Inspector

Location: Hounslow

Contract: Permanent

Hounslow Highways is responsible for the network management, street cleansing, maintenance and renewal of 468km of roads and associated assets in the London Borough of Hounslow. Through the development and application of robust strategies and policies and a skilled, dedicated workforce, we provide a customer focussed regime to make Hounslow a best practice borough for our industry and a great place to be for local businesses and residents.

Role Details – Highways Inspector

As the only ISO55001 accredited highways service provider in London, we take the lifecycle management of our assets very seriously, striving to ensure reduced risk and enhanced quality assurance for our clients and customers.

Achieving this accolade comes down to our dedicated professionals that make us a successful and trusted partner to Hounslow Borough Council and we now have a vacancy for a Highways Inspector to join our innovative and progressive asset management team.

As a technical expert, this role requires your knowledge and skills to undertake utility inspections in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act and inspect and report on the overall condition of the highway network, cycle routes and footways. Excellent communication is vital for this role as you will encounter members of the public over the phone and in person, respond to and liaise with local MP’s and work across multi-disciplined teams, including subcontractors in delivering our services.

Whilst we have achieved a steady state network with defects at a rate of less than 1 per kilometre, we receive a high volume of daily enquiries and reports from the travelling public, so alongside routine and programmed safety inspections, the team also identify and prioritise ad-hoc issues that may require urgent attention. We also deal with insurance and liability claims, you will therefore need to carry the technical gravitas, confidence and skills to handle court cases in this regard.

Your highways inspection experience could have been gained in a utilities, local authority or other relevant agency background but it is essential that you are in possession of the  necessary certifications to work in this field, such as a Streetworks Qualification Registration and NRSWA. An Engineering or Highway Maintenance related qualification is highly desirable.

This position doesn’t just offer a competitive salary and benefits, we’re keen to develop our Asset Management systems and processes to be a centre of excellence in our industry. So this role offers great scope and opportunity for those who have a keen interest to widen their breadth of knowledge and understanding across managing and delivering within a Highways PFI framework and developing your professional skills through our commitment to invest in our employees.
