Eurovia Contracting North wins two Institution of Civil Engineering Awards

Eurovia Contracting North has won two prestigious Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Awards in recognition of successful partnership schemes with local authority clients.

The £5.4m Peppermint Junction scheme in Lincolnshire was recognised as the region's winning Medium-sized Engineering Project, and the £3m Lubbesthorpe Strategic Employment Site (SES) scheme in Leicestershire won the Team Achievement Award at the ICE East Midlands Merit Awards.

The ceremony took place on Friday, 8 June in Derby, after the nominees had been judged based on a range of criteria, including innovation; sustainability; safety; communication; application of engineering principles; and overall project and resource management.

Eurovia Contracting was part of the winning partnerships on the projects, which included Lincolnshire County Council and principal designers WSP on Peppermint Junction and Leicestershire County Council and Midlands Highways Alliance on Lubbesthorpe SES.

Matt Stubbings, Eurovia Contracting North Divisional Manager, said: “The success of both schemes is testimony to the collaborative working between ourselves and our partner organisations which ensured they ran smoothly, efficiently and with minimal disruption to road users and local residents.

“I am delighted that the schemes have been acknowledged by the Institution of Civil Engineers through the presentation of the Merit Awards, but I am even more delighted that they will improve the journeys and safety of millions of road users for many years to come.”

The improvement works at Peppermint Junction in Holbeach saw the previous T-junction replaced with a roundabout connecting the A17 to the A151. A second roundabout was also constructed on the A151 south of Peppermint Junction, providing access to housing and commercial development land.

The Lubbesthorpe project consisted of a signalised site access junction on Leicester Lane, Enderby to provide access to the new Lubbesthorpe SES and junction widening at B4114/Leicester Lane to provide a right turn facility from Leicester Lane to B4114 southbound. The scheme also delivered walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure to provide access to the SES.
