Case Study, March 2017 - A59 Harrogate to Skipton - Overbanding and screening to defective areas of asphalt

Project Summary

After the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton at Blubberhouses was closed for repairs following a serious landslide, the client wanted to take advantage of the closure to conduct as much maintenance works as possible. Eurovia Joint Sealing Division were selected by the client to carry out over 800sqm of small patch screeding and overbanding that would normally have been patched. Due to cold temperatures and time of year Ultra-Band and Ultra-Screed products were used instead of the conventional HRA patching option.

Key Benefits of Eurovia solution

The advantages of Ultra-Band and Ultra-Screed to repair defective areas is that there is no waste generated compared with traditional plane out and reinstate with asphalt. The materials can be laid at lower temperatures than asphalt and the existing surface prepared and warmed to achieve adhesion. Quick curing times of the materials meant the gang could work from patch to patch efficiently working their way up the road without the need to leave traffic management behind them.

The important maintenance work was carried out quickly and effectively and has significantly prolonged the lifespan of the asset.
