We have 4 vacancies for Highways Schedulers to be based in the Highways England regional control centre in Avonmouth to create, coordinate, maintain and communicate the cyclical and reactive works programmes across the contract.


With such a large network to cover, this is a very busy role which will require exceptional planning, organisational and communication skills. Your remit will be to ensure planned and reactive works on the highways are prioritised effectively and that the right teams are deployed in the most cost and time effective way.

The role will include:

  • Allocating jobs daily for routine and cyclical maintenance
  • Creating and implementing project work plans and revisions as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Identifying resources needed and assigning individual responsibilities
  • Managing the schedule for quick response (CAT 1 & 2 and Emergency) activities
  • Completing the necessary applications for Road Space bookings associated with emergency possessions and all works
  • Assisting the manager in generating & reviewing reports from the asset & work management systems and the Central Management System
  • Checking & reviewing the Confirm dashboards regularly, identifying any enquiries/jobs which are at risk of failure and acting accordingly
  • Updating both the Clients Asset Management System and our financial and commercial systems

Experience of scheduling works, planning, logistics or resource management would be ideal, however it’s more important that you have a conscientious, organised and accurate approach, even when working to tight deadlines. The role operates with a lot of IT based systems and therefore you will need to be a competent user of applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.


All 4 vacancies are permanent and salary will be dependent on skills and experience. Please note the job operates on a shift pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off, 06:00 – 18:00 and 18:00 – 06:00.
