Ringway is renowned in the Highways Term Services sector across the UK, and has recently been awarded a high profile and strategic service contract from Highways England to deliver Maintenance and Response in the South West. This road network comprises 1,695km of routes within Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and Ringway will deliver cyclic and reactive maintenance, incident and severe weather response and associated traffic management.


We’re now looking for an Area Manager to manage the north area operations of this contract.

The purpose of this role is to plan, control, manage and co-ordinate all operational activities in line with company policy including costs versus value, processes and procedures and providing a safe and environmentally friendly operation, service delivery and customer satisfaction.


Key duties:

  • Directing resources including people, vehicle, plant, materials, sub-contractors and premises
  • Compliance with H&S ensuring personnel safety and the safety of others who may be affected by the company’s activities are paramount
  • Ensuring operations are carried out in a commercially astute manner to ensure best value for the minimum cost
  • Financial control, including annual and periodic budgets and forecasting is maintained and reporting on the operational and financial aspects of the Contract at periodic management reviews
  • Planning and programming to ensure effective service delivery
  • Front line responsibility for service delivery of winter maintenance and emergency response activities including standby duties as required
  • Ensure that site measurements/valuations are recorded and promptly processed, good commercial and financial processes are followed
  • Preparation and modification of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and COSHH assessments in association with the local safety advisor
  • Represent the Company at meetings with clients, the general public and representatives of other organisations or authorities as necessary
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest standard with good productivity levels


We’re ideally looking for applications from those who have people management experience with an understanding of the operational aspects and multiple stakeholders involved in the Highways Term Maintenance industry.


You will need to be organised, have good attention to detail and have excellent communication skills with the ability effectively manage and motivate people. It’s important to be committed to company policies and continually reviewing processes and procedures to drive innovation and continuous improvement.


Qualifications will ideally include HND level in a relevant subject and traffic management. IT literacy is vital in order to learn system based tools.


The role will be based around the Bristol area with moderate travel across the region for which a company car is provided.
