Case Study - Eurovia Contracting North Completes First Phase of Hull City Centre Scheme

EUROVIA CONTRACTING has completed the first phase of the multi-million pound public realm improvements in the centre of Hull in time for the New Year celebrations on the 31st December. Hull is the 2017 UK City of Culture so it was paramount that the phase was completed on time.

The completion of this first phase was needed in order to host the opening of the City of Culture events. Fireworks, light shows and a range of high profile cultural exhibitions commenced at midnight on the last day of 2016 and will continue to be in place throughout 2017.

The Eurovia team worked through Christmas, right up to the New Year deadline to ensure the work was finished, tidied, cleaned and ready to be handed over.

The whole project has some 42,000m2 of granite and yorkstone paving being laid across the entire city centre with water features, artistic LED lighting and public artwork also included. It is due for final completion in the early summer 2017.

Kevin Graham, Divisional Director for Eurovia Contracting North said “The team in Hull worked up to and across the Christmas period to ensure the city centre was ready for the New Year celebrations. Because of the hard work and commitment Hull City Council was able to mark and celebrate the occasion with great success. The numerous positive comments received on Twitter and other Social Media support the fact that the people of Hull appreciate the work that has been done.

Every person working on the project should be proud of what has been achieved so far. I now look forward to seeing the second and final phase of works being completed.”
